Nitish Reddy in, Arshdeep Singh out? Ryan ten Doeschate hints at changes for 3rd ODI
India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said the team plans to make a few changes for the third ODI against Afghanistan. Having secured a 2-0 lead in the series, the hosts will aim for a clean draw when the third ODI is played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, June 19.
Ten Doeschate revealed that Nitish Reddy is available for selection after missing the second ODI in Lucknow due to pain in his left thigh. The former Dutch batsman also hinted that Arshdeep Singh could be rested due to the dead rubber, while the batting unit is also expected to undergo at least one change, if not more.

“We will make a few changes from the last two games. Arshdeep can rest and be one of the batsmen,” Ten Doeschate told the pre-match press conference.
“Nitish, he probably could have played the last match. But it will be good if he goes for tomorrow’s match.”
PRESSURE ON YASHASVI JAISWAL
That Doeshchate also talked about Yashasvi Jaiswal and talked about the huge composition due to the quality of Indian batting. Jaiswal returned to the ODI set-up after six months and played the second ODI as an opener. But he failed to capitalize on the opportunity and after getting to Mohammad Saleem for four.
Despite scoring 116 against South Africa in Visakhapatnam last year, Jaiswal faces an uphill battle for a place in India’s ODI XI. Ishan Kishan’s return and century in Lucknow strengthened his case, while Virat Kohli should reclaim the No.3 spot when he is fit.
When Kohli returns, it would see Shubman Gill back to open alongside Rohit Sharma, with Kishan and Shreyas Iyer likely to occupy the middle order. as a result
Jaiswal has limited options to cement his place in a highly competitive batting line-up.
“He’s someone who’s been waiting in the wings because of the quality and depth we have at that position. But I certainly feel like the first priority is always to win the series and field our best team,” Ten Doeschate said.
“Jaiswal will get a few chances and it’s incredibly difficult because there’s so much quality. But he’s one of those guys where he gets the right chances like this, he’s going to have to score. That’s just the nature of Indian cricket,” Ten Doeschate added.
India won the rain-curtailed first ODI by seven wickets before recording an impressive 171-run victory in Lucknow to wrap up the series 2-0. The hosts will now focus on completing the third ODI before traveling to the UK to take on Ireland and England in their upcoming assignments.
