Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Image credit: IPL) NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on Tuesday added another chapter to his extraordinary IPL 2026 season as he smashed 93 off just 38 balls against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur and created a string of records, further underscoring his status as the breakout star of the tournament.At just 15, the Rajasthan opener has turned every outing into a record chase and his latest attack during the chase of 221 was no different. Even though he patiently fell short of his second century this season, he still left having achieved and surpassed a remarkable list of milestones. The youngest under 500 and the fastest among the eliteSooryavanshi became the youngest player in IPL history to score 500 runs in a season, surpassing Rishabh Pant, who set the previous mark in 2018 as a 20-year-old for Delhi.He has now scored 574 runs in IPL 2026 and more impressively, he has done so at a strike rate of 236.3 – the highest in the history of batting in an IPL season with more than 500 runs.That number comfortably ranks him above some of the most explosive campaigns in league history, including Andre Russell’s 204.8 in 2019 and Abhishek Sharma’s 202.0 this season.

The six-fold record falls againThe 15-year-old also became the first Indian to hit 50 sixes in a single IPL season, taking that tally to 53. Only Chris Gayle’s 59 sixes in 2012 is now above him on the all-time list.His 10 sixes against LSG also made him only the third batsman in IPL history to hit 10 or more sixes in an innings on multiple occasions, joining Gayle and Abhishek. Only Finn Allen has done it twice in the current season.Rajasthan’s power-play dominance was also driven almost entirely by the teenager. According to CricViz, RR now hold the record for most powerplay sixes in a single IPL season with 60. Sooryavanshi alone has accounted for 37 of them.
