The Congress party in Tripura on Wednesday (December 3, 2025) completed the ‘Vote chor, gaddi chhod’ (vote thief, leave the seat) campaign in the state, collecting over two million protest signatures. The campaign received huge support from people across the state, which helped secure 2,13,109 signatures, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ashish Kumar Saha said.
The signed campaign forms were sent to the party headquarters in New Delhi via Speed Post. Mr. Saha, MLA and former TPCC chief Birajit Sinha and senior leaders were present at the Agartala head post office located next to the Congress Bhavan here.
“We joined this national campaign of the party on September 15. The Congress central officials in charge of Tripura and the three party MLAs in the state worked hard to secure signatures in their constituencies,” Mr. Saha said.
A significant number of signatories come from indigenous communities. The party completed the campaign against all odds. The Congress high command will convey the “voices of the people” to the President of India against the menace of vote chori (theft) that has undermined democracy and people’s law, Mr. Saha said. The Congress national protest rally scheduled for December 14 at Ram Lila Maidan in New Delhi will see massive participation of people from across the state, he said.
Protesting against the conduct of Special Intensive Review (SIR) in Tripura, the Congress leader alleged that the SIR has become a tool for perpetrating “chori vote”.
