The 11th VRL Hubballi Half Marathon was successfully organized in Hubballi on Sunday.
A total of 3,200 runners participated in this edition in various categories. The race consisted of 5 km, 10 km and 21 km (half marathon) courses with different age categories for male and female runners. All categories were measured using RFID tags and sensor mats along the route.
The race ended successfully without major health problems and all participants finished successfully, the organizers said.
The race was flagged off by various dignitaries including Aman Mehta of Kamal Group, PN Nayak of Desphande Foundation, Manu TN, Director of KLEIT, Abhishek Malani of AVM Granite, Shivayogi Baligar and Gangadhar Patil of Hubballi Fitness Foundation.
Vijay Sankeshwar and Anand Sankeshwar sent their blessings as they could not attend due to prior commitments. Workers from various divisions of VRL took part in the race.
Medical support was provided by Hubballi-Dharwad Society of Anaesthetists of India and physiotherapy support by Healing Waters Physio.
“Volunteers from Deshpande Foundation and Hubballi Bicycle Club enhanced the experience of our runners. Ambulances were deployed along the route in case of emergency from BDK Lifeline, Tatwadarsh and Secure Hospitals. Participants came from Ballari, Mysuru, Bengaluru, Belagavi and other areas,” they said.
Several foreign nationals also participated in the event. Among them were some Malaysian students and French national Sanchis Davy, who is on a cycling tour of India. He got the second position in his age category in the 21 km race, says a Hubballi Fitness Foundation report.
