Here are complaints about the presence of a tiger in the BEML premises and the forest department has installed camera traps to ascertain the veracity of the claims.
Senior officials in the forest department said there was a complaint from the BEML authorities on Saturday, which vouched for the presence of a tiger, after which the authorities started monitoring the area.
Acting on the complaint, Paramesh, DCF, Mysuru Wildlife said that four pairs of cameras have been installed at lookouts in the sprawling BEML campus. He said once it was confirmed, further measures would be taken, including setting up baited cages to lure the tiger.
Meanwhile, a video has gone viral on social media showing a tiger walking along a well-paved road flanked on both sides by tall compound walls topped by security fencing and allegedly by the BEML complex. However, Mr. Paramesh said that the staff is yet to be convinced of its veracity.
It is pertinent to note that leopard sightings in an industrial area on the outskirts of Mysuru are common and have recently been reported from the Infosys and RBI press.
There have been several instances of leopards being spotted and trapped within the BEML premises itself. Tigers were spotted in the Nanjangud industrial area in December 2023.
Late sightings of a tiger in Mysuru district are reported with constant regularity from the human landscape and it was only on Thursday that the authorities trapped the tiger in Hunsur after local villagers complained about its presence.
Meanwhile, combing operations and monitoring are continuing in HD Kote following similar complaints from villagers who expressed concern over repeated cattle killings.
