A massive fire broke out in a shoe store in a building in south Delhi before spreading upstairs, killing at least four people.
The incident took place on Tigri Extension.
At 6:24 p.m., the PČR received a report of a fire in a store on the ground floor of a four-story building. Subsequently, the police went to the scene. However, on arrival, they found the entire building engulfed in flames, PTI reported quoting a senior Delhi Police official.
The official said three people were found dead at the scene. Two injured women were rescued from the building and taken to hospital, but one of them later succumbed to her injuries.
A brother and sister were among those killed in the fire. they were identified as Satender alias Jimmy (38) and Anita (40). Jain was the owner of the building.
One person who sustained injuries has been identified as Mamta (40) and is currently undergoing treatment. She suffered 25 percent burns.
The rest are still unknown, police said.
The exact cause of the fire is not yet known and further investigations are underway.
officials said crime and forensics teams have been called in to inspect the scene and evidence is being collected to determine the cause of the fire.
Earlier this week, a fire broke out in a three-storey building in west Delhi’s Naraina, which was the ruin of paint and thinner, leading to the collapse of the second and third floors.
Earlier this month, a fire broke out at Sindhu Apartments in central Delhi, home to several MPs, prompting authorities to rush in eight fire engines. No casualties were reported in the incident. The apartments are located on Baba Kharak Singh Road near Connaught Place.
In October, a fire broke out in a building near gate number 31 of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
