B. Manikandan, named as the third accused in the sensational actor rape case, attempted suicide on Friday evening after he was taken into custody and released by the Palarivattom police for allegedly harassing the public under the influence of alcohol.
Police sources said Mr. Manikandan left the police station around midnight and bought a razor from a nearby shop. He cut his wrist even as a bystander and the police intervened and took him to the hospital. He was released after receiving first aid as the injury was found to be minor.
The incident occurred even as the Ernakulam district court is scheduled to deliver its verdict on December 8 in the case in which actor Dileep is an accused.
The allegation is that the actor was kidnapped and raped by the accused in a moving car on February 17, 2017.
NS Sunil alias Pulsar Suni is the first accused in the case. The eight other accused in the case include Martin Antony, B. Manikandan, Vice President Vijeesh, H. Salim, Pradeep, Charly Thomas and Sanilkumar. Dileep, the eighth accused in the case, was charged with conspiracy.
