Amidst the uproar surrounding the death of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, his son Kasim Khan has reacted to the inability to contact his father. Claiming that the people’s leader of the nation was being treated inhumanely by the authorities, he sought help from international agencies and democratic countries.
“Imprisoned on death row with zero transparency”
Kasim Khan criticized the Pakistani government and condemned the repressive government, saying in a post on X: “My father has been arrested for 845 days. He has been held in solitary confinement on death row for the last six weeks with zero transparency.”
Due to the family member’s inability to establish any communication with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, he wrote: “His sisters have been denied every visit, even with clear court orders allowing them access. There have been no phone calls, no meetings and no proof of life. Me and my brother have had no contact with my father.”
“This absolute blackout is not a security protocol,” says Kasim Khan
She expresses concern over her 73-year-old father’s solitary confinement: “This absolute blackout is not security protocol. It is a deliberate attempt to hide his condition and prevent our family from knowing if he is safe.”
Arguing that there were political motives behind his father’s imprisonment, the 26-year-old added: “Let it be clear: the Pakistani government and its managers will be fully legally, morally and internationally responsible for my father’s safety and all the consequences of this inhumane isolation.”
He called for international intervention and called on global human rights groups and democratic states to demand responsibility for securing “the release of Pakistan’s most popular political leader”.
Imran Khan’s sister breaks her silence on her brother’s treatment
This statement comes at a time when one of Imran Khan’s sisters, Noreen Niazi, opened up about the repressive rule under the Shehbaz Sharif-led government. She compared the situation in Pakistan to that of Hitler’s Nazi Germany as she elaborated on the extent of media censorship in her country.
She claimed that Imran Khan is a leader and not a politician and said that her brother was under a lot of pressure. “Imran Khan is being tortured to say, ‘Spare me, I am leaving the nation’ like Nawaz Sharif or Zardari did before him,” ANI quoted Noreen Niazi as saying.
She claimed that England and the US were supporting the Pakistani government. Stressing that she had no expectations from the international community, she said her only hope was that the Pakistani people would stand up to the government and fight for their rights.
Dismissing rumors of PTI leader’s death, Adviser to Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, in an interview to ARY News said that Imran Khan remained in Adiala Jail and is fine. He said the former prime minister was under the supervision of a medical team responsible for his “medication, diet, equipment (and) exercise”.
