Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) organized an awareness program on Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit (MEME) system, a key element of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), under the auspices of its Social Work Department and Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) at its Kakatur campus in SPSR Nellore district on Thursday.
Resource T. Raveender Reddy provided an explanation of MEME and the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system. He said MEME provides students with academic freedom and skill development. Students will have the opportunity to enter a class, leave in the middle and re-enter in seven years according to their personal circumstances, needs and interests.
“MEME allows students to secure the academic credits they have earned,” he said, providing a comprehensive explanation of the MEME implementation process, the ABC system, credit migration and the guidelines colleges must follow. Directors of affiliated and autonomous universities took part in the meeting.
University Vice-Chancellor Allam Srinivasa Rao and Registrar K. Suneetha participated in the programme. Explaining the pace of India’s economy, the Vice Chancellor said, “India currently has a GDP of $4 trillion. The target is to grow to a $5 trillion economy by 2027-28.”
“While the first $1 trillion in GDP took 60 years, it now takes just seven years for each $1 trillion to increase. It is estimated that the jump from $4 trillion to $5 trillion could take as little as two years. The government aims to increase GDP to $20 trillion by 2047. If this target is achieved, India will become the world’s second or third largest economy.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao further said, “The responsibility of transforming the nation from a developing country to a fully developed country in the future rests with the youth of today. As the youth become the future decision makers and hold key positions, educational institutions must strengthen their role in imparting knowledge and skills.”
