A four-year-old boy was found dead in Gokanapeta village of Kunta mandal NP in Sri Sathya Sai district on Thursday. According to the police, the boy was allegedly abducted from his anganwadi by a close relative on Wednesday evening and allegedly killed.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said that after the boy Harshavardhan went missing, his parents lodged a complaint with the police on Wednesday evening. Half a dozen search parties were formed to track down the missing child. However, the police found the child’s body early Thursday on the outskirts of the village. The SP said it was found that the boy had been strangled to death.
Accused Prasad was a close relative of the child’s father, Gangadhar. The crime may have been triggered by strained financial relations between the two families, police said. Prasad’s son was suffering from terminal cancer and Gangadhar had been supporting the family financially for some time. As the burden became heavy and Gangadhar could no longer continue helping, Prasad allegedly developed a grudge against Gangadhar, the SP said.
Forensic teams examined the scene and the body was moved for autopsy. The SP said a search party has been formed to trace Prasad. “The missing case has been changed to murder,” said Mr. Satish Kumar.
