A compensation amount of ₹ 1.15 crore from the National Insurance Company has been handed over to the family of Drishana, a nine-year-old child who was in a coma for about a year after the accident in Choroda. Drishana’s father Sudheer accepted the compensation from Motor Accident Complaints Tribunal (MACT) judge K Rajesh at the district court premises on Wednesday (November 26, 2025).
The tribunal had earlier ordered the immediate settlement of the compensation claim, which it found to be a vital lifeline for the injured girl’s continued intensive medical care.
The incident took place on February 17, 2024, when Dirshana and her grandmother were crossing the road at Chorode near Vadakara. The elderly woman died at the scene. The accused Methil Punathil Shajeel, who fled the scene after the accident, was nabbed after a year-long investigation into the incident.
