Kamla Pasand owner Kamal Kishore Chaurasia’s daughter-in-law Deepti Chaurasia reportedly committed suicide on Tuesday evening, reported ANI news agency, saying her body was found hanged. Her brother has now claimed that she was tortured by her mother-in-law and husband and that her husband had extra-marital affairs.
Citing police officials, the news agency said a diary was also recovered after Deepti’s death where the 40-year-old woman mentioned a dispute with her husband and Kishore’s son Harpreet, whom she married in 2010. The couple have a 14-year-old son.
Deepti’s body was brought to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday evening and is awaiting an autopsy to be conducted by a team of doctors.
Inducing suicide?
While details are still scarce, News18 reported that Deepti’s family is seeking to file a complaint alleging abetment of suicide, an offense under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Media reports suggest that Deepti’s extreme move might have stemmed from her displeasure with Harpreet, who reportedly got married for the second time and tied the knot with the South Indian actress.
Rishabh, Deepti’s brother, has now alleged that her mother-in-law and husband physically assaulted her. Interacting with reporters, Rishabh said, “…Her mother-in-law and her husband were beating them. Her husband Harpreet was having an affair. When we came to know about it, we took our daughter home… After that, her mother-in-law took her back. My sister called me and said that she was tortured and her husband was having an affair.”
“I don’t know if my sister was killed or she died by suicide. I spoke to her 2-3 days ago… I just want justice… My sister got married in 2010. Her relationship with her husband was not good. He physically assaulted and abused her…” he further added.
Currently owned by KP Group and Kamla Kant & Company, pan masala and gutka brand Kamla Pasand was founded by Kamala Kant Chaurasia and Kamal Kishore Chaurasia. The company sells products all over India and has a turnover of billions of rupees.
