US President Donald Trump on Tuesday backed away from his earlier Thursday deadline for Ukraine to agree to a US-backed peace plan, saying “the deadline for me is when this is over”.
Trump said US negotiators had made progress in discussions with Russia and Ukraine and Moscow had agreed to some concessions, according to Reuters. He further said: “Ukraine is happy.”
Witkoff and Putin will meet next week
Trump said his envoy, Steve Witkoff, will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next week. He said his son-in-law Jared Kushner may join them, the US president said on Tuesday.
“Steve Witkoff may be going with Jared. I’m not sure if Jared is going, but he’s involved in the process, smart guy, and they’re going to meet with President Putin, I believe next week in Moscow,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
