KHAMMAM
Seeking the immediate arrest of the killers of veteran CPI (M) leader Samineni Rama Rao, many CPI (M) members led by party state secretary John Wesley staged a dharna outside the Integrated District Office Complex (IDOC) in Khammam on Tuesday.
Mild tension prevailed outside the IDOC as protesters tried to enter its premises. A large contingent of police personnel, deployed on bandobus duty, foiled their bid. The protesters staged a sit-in and raised slogans demanding the arrest of the culprits responsible for the gruesome murder of a senior leader of their party in Patharlapad on October 31.
Dozens of villagers from Patharlapad participated in the demonstration.
Addressing the dharna, Mr. John Wesley repeated the charge that the assassination of Samineni Rama Rao was a “political murder.” The police are yet to arrest the assailants involved in the brutal killing of the veteran leader, who is known for his able leadership in defending the rights of farmers and marginalized sections, he said, questioning the “delay” in nabbing the culprits.
He warned of a nationwide agitation if the attackers were not apprehended and brought to justice immediately. Slain leader Rama Rao’s wife Swarajyam, CPI (M) state secretariat member P. Sudarshan Rao, senior CPI leader B. Hemanth Rao, BRS and New Democracy leaders among others took part in the demonstration.
