A fire broke out at the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) commercial complex in Jayanagar Block 4 on Monday due to a suspected short circuit causing panic among staff and visitors.
Two units of fire fighters arrived at the scene, extinguished the fire and brought the situation under control.
Firefighters rescued Krishna Gowda, who was trapped in the lift. Another person, Arun Prasad, an employee of the minor irrigation department, was given first aid and later taken to hospital.
Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao and South City Corporation Commissioner KN Ramesh visited the site and conducted an inspection.
Officials confirmed that there was no major damage to the building or offices, although power lines were damaged due to a short circuit.
Probe team assembled
Mr. Ramesh said a team comprising officials from South Zone, Bescom and the Fire and Rescue Service has been formed to investigate the exact cause of the electrical failure and submit a detailed report.
As a precaution, the power supply to the entire shopping complex was cut off and all shops and offices were temporarily closed so that a complete inspection and repair of the electrical installation could be carried out.
During the inspection, the authorities also ordered officials to remove unauthorized vendors and clear the encroached footpaths around the premises.
