TN Assembly: Governor Arlekar twice hails National Anthem rendition, calls it dawn of new era

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Thursday (June 18, 2026) welcomed the rendition of the national anthem at the beginning and end of his customary address to the legislature. He also expressed happiness over the smooth conduct of the proceedings, saying it marked the dawn of a new era in the House.
“For the very first time, the National Anthem was played both at the beginning of the session and at the end of the Governor’s speech. It is no exaggeration to say that this historic event is a testimony to the promotion of the dignity of democracy and the successful fulfillment of the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu who desire a harmonious relationship between the state government and the Bokvan government.”

“I am pleased to inform the people that today (June 18) marks the dawn of a new era in the Tamil Nadu Legislature. It gives immense satisfaction that after a gap of three years, the Governor’s speech was read in full in the House today without any disruption,” Lok Bhavan said in a post on X, quote.
“In a democracy, the administration must function to promote an integrated and harmonious relationship across all areas, thereby fulfilling the needs and expectations of its citizens to serve as a stable and exemplary government. It is deeply gratifying that we have all begun our common journey towards this goal,” he added.
