Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana has removed all wedding-related posts from her social media after her planned ceremony with music composer Palash Muchhal was put on hold due to her father’s sudden health scare.
Mandhana’s father was taken to a hospital in Sangli after symptoms related to a possible heart problem develop. As the family’s immediate attention shifted to his treatment and recovery, the wedding, which had been scheduled to take place in her hometown, was postponed indefinitely.
Adding to the tense situation was Muchhal, who was admitted to the hospital in Sangli the next day. While initial reports raised concerns, his mother Amita Muchhal later confirmed that he has since returned to Mumbai and is currently resting as he continues to recover. Although the episode was short, it further reinforced the family’s decision to suspend all celebrations.
Mandhana, who has largely kept her personal life out of the public limelight, has been around before she shared glimpses of her pre-wedding festivities on Instagram. Their engagement moments, celebrations with close friends and teammates and snippets of traditional ceremonies have been seen in recent days. However, those posts have now been removed from her profile, signaling a clear shift in priorities from celebrating to taking care of her family.
The move immediately caught the attention of fans who were eagerly following the wedding updates. But the response online was largely one of empathy and support, with followers sending messages of encouragement rather than questioning the decision.
The couple were due to tie the knot on Sunday in a private ceremony attended only by close friends and family. The celebrations reportedly started in the days leading up to the wedding and traditional events like Mehendi, Haldi and Sangeet were already underway. In a light-hearted nod to Mandhana’s sporting life, a friendly Bride Team vs Groom Team cricket match was also organized as part of the celebrations.
Several members of the Indian women’s cricket team including Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Shafali Verma, Arundhati Reddy, Shivali Shinde and Richa Ghosh were present during the events. A short video of Mandhana dancing with her co-stars during the Haldi ceremony quickly went viral.
The couple had previously announced their engagement on social media. Mandhana posted a fun video with her co-starswhile Muchhal shared a design clip shot at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai – the same venue where India lifted the Women’s World Cup.
The wedding was expected to come close on the heels of Mandhana’s memorable World Cup campaign in which she played a key role in India’s historic title campaign. For now, however, cricket and celebrations have taken a backseat to family and recovery.
