A 25-year-old man and his accomplice were arrested by the Jolarpet police in Tirupattur on Sunday for allegedly abducting a businessman for failing to pay part of the agreed amount for the purchase of land.
The arrested persons have been identified as R. Vishnu (25) and K. Sampath (45). They are residents of Reddiyur village near Jolarpet town. Initial investigation revealed that farmer S. Ravichandran had sold his 6.5 acres of agricultural land to the victim and businessman B. Kumar a few months back.
Police said Kumar had allegedly paid only part of the agreed amount for the land at the time of registration. He promised Ravichandran that he would pay the remaining amount soon.
However, the police said that despite repeated reminders, Kumar did not pay the remaining money to Ravichandran. Subsequently, Ravichandran, his son Vishnu and relative Sampath went to Kumar for money.
After a heated argument, the pair abducted Kumar to the sub-registrar to transfer the land sold to them. Acting on a tip-off from Kumar’s family members, the Jolarpet police rescued him. A case has been registered. The pair were arrested and lodged in a sub-jail in Tirupattur town. A probe is underway.
