Union leaders of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) JAC on Wednesday (June 17, 2026) opposed the Andhra Pradesh government’s plan to run electric buses through private operators and lease RTC land to private entities.
A JAC meeting of APSRTC employees was held in Vijayawada under the leadership of Vijayawada zone JAC leaders YS Rao and Adapa Rama Rao and presided over by zonal president of the employees’ union G. Chiranjeevi.
The unions demanded that APSRTC should purchase and operate electric buses on its own, hire 10,000 employees, add 4,000 buses, clear pending employee allowances, announce interim relief (IR), constitute 12th Pay Revision Commission (PRC) and clear arrears of pensioners.
Leaders said the APSRTC management should take advantage of the incentives and subsidies provided by the central government for electric buses and buy buses directly through the corporation to be operated by RTC employees. They accused the government and management of trying to hand over to private operators not only the operation of the electric buses but also the valuable depot land through lease arrangements without considering the views of the employee unions.
JAC leaders announced red ribbon protests on June 23 and 24 and a review meeting on June 28. They warned of nationwide protests if the government did not address the demands.
The meeting was attended by JAC Convenors Y. Srinivasa Rao (NMUA) and GV Narasayya (EU); co-conveners PV Ramana Reddy (NMUA), MD Prasad (EU), CH Sundarayya (SWF), SK Jilani (SWF), SV Seshagiri Rao (KP), Y. Srinivasa Rao (KP) and KSP Rao (United Workers), among others.
