The much-awaited wedding of Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal, scheduled for 23 November 2025 in Sangli, has been postponed indefinitely due to a medical emergency involving Smriti’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana.
The postponement has put the grand celebrations on hold as the family focuses on his health.
Smriti Mandhana’s father hospitalized, her wedding to Palashe Muchhal postponed indefinitely
According to the cricketer’s manager Tuhin Mishra, Shriniwas began to feel unwell during breakfast at the family farmhouse, prompting an immediate call for an ambulance.
He was rushed to Sarvhit Hospital in Sangli, where doctors confirmed elevated heart enzymes as well as elevated blood pressure and put him under close observation.
Family doctor Dr. Naman Shah explained that his symptoms point to angina pectoris and if his condition worsens, they may need to do angiography.
Who is Shriniwas Mandhana?
Shriniwas Mandhana is not just the father of the cricket icon – his own journey in sports and business has profoundly influenced Smriti’s rise. In his younger days, Shriniwas played cricket at the district level for Sangli and harbored dreams of playing more seriously.
However, he was unable to pursue a full professional playing career, reportedly due to a lack of support from his own parents.
Apart from cricket, Shrini built a life for his family through his work as a chemical distributor.
Over the years, he became a pillar of support for Smriti and her siblings and encouraged their cricketing ambitions. His faith in them was unwavering – he often said that he hoped one of his children would one day represent India.
Smriti, in particular, spoke of her father’s persistent but firm encouragement. Growing up, she would often accompany him to the cricket grounds, watching his or her brother play and learning the nuances of the game.
This early exposure and her father’s faith are often credited with fueling her passion and leading to her extraordinary journey in international cricket.
The wedding, which was preceded by colorful traditional rituals – mehendi, haldi, sangeet – came to an abrupt halt in the face of this crisis.
While the exact future date of the ceremony remains uncertain, the family has requested privacy as they prioritize Shriniwas Mandhana’s recovery.
