
A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck around 10 am on Friday, November 21, near Narsingdi in Bangladesh, PTI reported citing the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Several places in South Bengal, including Kolkata, experienced tremors on Friday morning. The earthquake struck at 10:08 a.m., 13 km south-southwest of Narsingdi in the neighboring country, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
No injuries or damage have been reported yet.
People in Kolkata and neighboring districts reportedly took to the streets as a precautionary measure. Several videos have surfaced on social media showing individuals taking to the streets of Kolkata and other districts.
Earlier in the day, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale shook Pakistan, ANI reported citing the National Center for Seismology.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 135 km.
Several regions across the country have recently felt tremors from earthquakes. A powerful earthquake hit the Andaman Islands this week. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) posted on X that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.4 and occurred at a depth of 90 km.
