HC informs Center, State over Hyderabad student missing in Finland
Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Union and state governments in a writ petition filed by a housewife to direct them to take effective diplomatic and administrative steps to trace her son Gujja Manideep Reddy, who has been missing in Finland since May 6.
The judge sent the matter to June 24 for further hearing after the Union government’s standing counsel and the government’s public prosecutor sought time to get directions in the matter. According to 41-year-old Gujja Marnath, who filed the suit, her son Manideep Reddy flew to Finland in March 2025 to complete his matriculation.
She informed the bench that Manideep had last spoken to her on phone on May 5. She told the court that her son informed her during a telephone conversation that he was at the bakery and that he would be back in his room soon. He even told his roommates that he had left and would soon return to the accommodation, the petitioner told the court.
However, the parents have not heard from him again until today. Concerned parents contacted his friends, roommates and others in Finland, but no one could provide any leads. The petitioner claimed that the authorities do not respond sufficiently to parents’ inquiries.
The petitioner wanted the officials of the Indian Embassy in Finland to ensure expedited efforts to trace her missing son. The standing counsel for the Union government informed the court that the Finnish authorities have registered a case in this regard. The family was informed of the investigation by May 29, the lawyer told the court.
