Pune-based defense and aerospace manufacturer Nibe Limited on Tuesday (Jun 16, 2026) demonstrated its advanced long-range vehicle-mounted 120mm mortar system, Garudastra, to the Indian Army as part of a no-cost-no-obligation (NC-NC) evaluation at the Infantry School, Mhow.
According to Nibe Limited, the test highlighted the system’s rapid deployment capability, high rate of fire, multiple simultaneous impact (MRSI) capability, and GPS and laser-guided munitions.
The test began with a tactical shoot-and-scoot mission designed to simulate battlefield conditions. Garudastra was in firing position in less than 30 seconds. The system then engaged the target with two rounds within 15 seconds before moving out of firing position in less than 15 seconds to avoid simulated counter-battery fire. It then moved to a secondary position and successfully hit the target again with the same level of accuracy, he added.
The mortar system then demonstrated its high-volume firepower, with a two-man crew firing 12 rounds in 60 seconds while maintaining accuracy. Another key highlight was the successful execution of the MRSI mission, during which three rounds were fired on different trajectories and flight paths but hit the target simultaneously.
The demonstration culminated in the firing of precision-guided munitions capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 10 kilometers. Guided by GPS and laser systems, the bullet scored a direct hit on a 3 x 3 meter target, demonstrating the weapon’s ability to hit accurately.
The firm said the Garudastra is designed to provide precision indirect fire support and also deploy a 17kg armor-piercing warhead capable of defeating reinforced concrete. The company said the successful demonstration reinforces its commitment to strengthen domestic defense industry manufacturing through strategic collaboration with its Israel-based OEM partners while supporting the government’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
