Amid strained bilateral relations, Bangladesh’s National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman has invited India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to visit Dhaka. The invitation was extended by the Bangladeshi side during a meeting between the two NSAs held in New Delhi on Wednesday (19 November 2025) ahead of Thursday’s (20 November 2025) 7th meeting of the National Security Advisers Security Conclave in Colombo.
The visit by the Bangladesh team, led by Mr Rahman, attracted attention as it began a day after the International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) handed down the death sentence to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is in exile in India. The meeting between Mr. Doval and Mr. Rahman discussed “key bilateral issues,” according to a Bangladesh High Commission press release.

Mr Doval will host his counterparts from the Maldives, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at a security conclave in Colombo, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. The meeting will also see the participation of Seychelles as an “observer state”. Malaysia has been invited as a guest, the MEA announced.
A meeting of national security advisers and other security-related officials from member countries of the security conclave in Colombo will review activities under the categories of “Maritime Safety and Security; Counter-Terrorism and Radicalisation; Countering Transnational Organized Crime; Cyber Security and Critical Infrastructure Protection and Humanitarian and Disaster Relief,” the MEA said in a statement.
Officials will also confirm the roadmap and action plan for 2026.
