Ernakulam district administration is strengthening pre-monsoon preparedness
Following the intensifying monsoon, District Collector and District Disaster Management Authority Chairman G. Priyanka has ordered immediate felling of dangerous trees and pruning of tree branches.
The action was initiated after several trees were found posing a threat near schools, houses, offices and other public places, the statement said.
The Collector asked the concerned departments and local authorities to identify the dangerous trees and remove them immediately. In the case of unsafe trees located on private property, the relevant local authorities should issue notices to the owners. The Collector also ordered to identify dangerous trees in school premises and take safety measures before the start of the new academic year. Dangerous billboards and billboards must also be removed.
Review meeting
Meanwhile, a review meeting of the concerned departments will be held at the Collectorate on Wednesday (May 20) to try to intensify the pre-monsoon cleaning activities in the district. The meeting will review the steps taken by each local authority. While the Kochi Corporation has been given permission to spend up to ₹60,000 from its own funds on cleaning activities, municipalities and panchayats can spend up to ₹40,000 and ₹30,000 respectively.
Local authorities have been asked to step up resource reduction activities through home visits to prevent mosquito breeding. Special cleaning campaigns should be organized in schools, government offices and hospitals as part of epidemic prevention. Secretaries of local bodies should pay special attention to ensure cleanliness in labor camps where migrant workers stay, the Collector said in a release.
