Russia is on track to approve nearly 25 fishing units in India, making them eligible to supply the country, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday (Nov 18, 2025).
Recently, the European Union (EU) approved 102 more units of marine products from India for export.
“Russia also approves nearly 25 fishing facilities,” he told reporters in New Delhi.
He said India is in talks with several other countries including the UAE to diversify shrimp and fish exports.
The development is also important to diversify India’s shrimp exports, which have been hit hard by the steep 50% tariff imposed by the US.
India’s shrimp exports stood at $4.88 billion in 2024-25, accounting for 66 percent of total seafood exports.
When asked about the progress of talks on the proposed India-EU FTA, Goyal said, “I am very confident that in the coming months we should be able to reach an agreement with the EU, provided we sort out some of the last miles that are currently being discussed.”
