The Central Crime Branch (CCB) busted a large inter-state network involved in manufacturing adulterated ghee in Tamil Nadu, packing it in fake Nandini-branded sachets and bottles and distributing it across Bengaluru.
Four accused were arrested and 8,136 liters of adulterated ghee worth ₹1.26 million was seized.
According to officials, the accused took advantage of the high demand for Nandini ghee in Karnataka by preparing fake ghee from coconut and palm oil in Tamil Nadu and supplying it to their Bengaluru counterparts who had official KMF licences.
These licensees allegedly distributed the counterfeit product to wholesalers, retail outlets and Nandini salons across the city at full market price.
A joint team, acting on intelligence gathered by the CCB Special Investigation Squad and the KMF Vigilance Wing, raided godowns, shops and vehicles of Krishna Enterprises at Nanjamba Agrahara, Chamarajpet on Friday. A vehicle carrying adulterated ghee from Tamil Nadu packed in fake Nandini bags and bottles was also seized and its driver arrested.
The police seized five mobile phones used in the crime, four trucks, ₹1,19,640 in cash, machinery used to make fake ghee and a large quantity of coconut and palm oil. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹1,26,95,200.
A case has been registered at the CCB’s Special Investigations Unit. Further investigations are underway.
