Deputy Commissioner B. Fouzia Taranum emphasized that both boys and girls must be equipped with digital literacy and cyber security skills to protect themselves in an increasingly technology-driven world. She said students can achieve greater heights only when they identify their strengths and work towards realizing their potential.
After inaugurating an awareness program on digital literacy and cyber security organized under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative at Government College (Autonomous), Kalaburagi, the Deputy Commissioner said that digital knowledge has become indispensable in modern life.
“Every child today needs to understand digital literacy and cyber security. It is essential that both girls and boys receive proper training to protect themselves and use technology responsibly,” she said. She added that students must aim high and strive to excel in their talents to stand out in society.
In a Children’s Day greeting, Ms. Taranum encouraged the female students to be inspired by successful women in various fields and reminded them that girls are no less capable than anyone else. “For the country to progress, girls must get quality education. All girl students should make good use of this program under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” she said.
College principal Savita Tiwari, who presided over the event, said that educated girls contribute to the progress of families and the nation. “If a girl is educated, she can transform the whole household. Therefore, every family must ensure that girls study and achieve their goals,” she said.
Dean of Arts Vijaykumar Salimani said girls do not need any historical examples to recognize their potential. “One does not have to look far to understand what girls can achieve. A living example is our very own Deputy Commissioner, Mrs. Fouzia Taranum, who grew up from a humble background and was nationally recognized for her good governance,” he said.
Cybercrime officer Sanjeev Kumar Kambarge warned students against the risks associated with excessive or unsafe use of mobile phones. “Technology is useful but it can also be dangerous if misused. Cybercriminals often target innocent girls online. Students must be confident and report any cyber crime immediately without fear,” he said.
During the programme, Ms. Taranum felicitated NCC Ashmit and Sportsman Swapna Reddy for their achievements.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mahesh Megannavar, Ravindra Kumar Bhandari, officials from Women and Child Development Department, faculty members and students were present.
