Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) plans to have a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) every 25-30 kilometers on national and state highways. Restaurants, dhabas or other food outlets; premises within 500 meters of an electrical substation; Sites under consideration include government-owned land along roads. Corporation CEO V. Anila said they plan to increase public EVCS by setting them up in government offices, hospitals, schools, railway stations and other places in Tier I and II cities.
Locations in the city and along highways are not yet approved. About 1,500 applications for the establishment of stations were received from private parties.
Currently, there are more than 1,030 EVCS in Telangana, including around 600 in Hyderabad. TGREDCO aims to increase public EVCS to 6,000 by 2030 and 12,000 by 2035. The number of charging stations and energy consumed has increased from 2.60 million units (MU) in September last year to 10.15 MU in September this year. Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) in September this year caused an increase with consumption of 7.81 MU for its fleet of EV buses. TGSRTC charging stations are for buses only.
A space of approximately 650 square feet is required to set up an EVCS. Two categories of infrared equipment are needed: EV charger and upstream infrastructure including distribution transformer, cables, AC junction boxes, civil works and more. The price varies according to the capacity of the charger. An EVCS with a 60KW charger costs around ₹15,000,000, including ₹7,00,000 for the charger and another ₹7,00,000 for upstream. Officials said that the subsidy is provided under PM E-Drive is provided for setting up EVCS.
One of the needs of people with EVs is to know the location of charging stations, especially along highways for smoother trip planning. Officials said a unified app is being worked on that will have information about the public EVCS.
