A 47-year-old factory owner was allegedly assaulted and robbed of his 100-gram gold chain by a former employee at the Kumbalagod police station on Thursday.
According to the complaint, the victim, Amar Narayana Swamy, who runs a Ganesh idol manufacturing unit in Kanchanapura, was approached by the 23-year-old accused, identified as Jayanth, on November 13. The accused worked briefly at Mr. Swamy’s factory in June 2025. Jayanth allegedly told the complainant that the BDA site was available for sale and offered to show it to him.
Both traveled in the complainant’s car to Sulikere BDA Layout where Jayanth showed him two vacant plots. While they were returning, the accused, who was sitting on the back seat, allegedly rushed forward and tried to snatch the gold chain the complainant was wearing. When the victim fought back, Jayanth allegedly attacked him with a knife, injuring his neck, face, shoulder, forehead and head.
“The bleeding complainant got out of the vehicle and attempted to escape by climbing onto the back of a passing mini-truck. The accused allegedly chased him, pulled him down, stabbed him again in the back, ripped off the gold chain and fled on a motorbike,” police said.
The Kumbalagod police have registered a case and are searching for the accused.
