The Dusi police on Thursday arrested three persons near Cheyyar town in Tiruvannamalai for murdering a wielder over a petty money-lending dispute.
Police said the arrested persons were K. Balaji, 21, S. Babu, 24, and V. Yuvaraj, 27, all residents of Abdullapuram village near Cheyyar town. Initial investigation revealed that by the time K. Kabali, 25, was returning home, they were drinking liquor near the roadside TASMAC outlet. The gang stopped him and allegedly demanded money from him to buy more liquor.
After Kabali refused to give them money, they got into a heated argument with him. In a fit of rage, the gang attacked him with sharp weapons and fled the scene.
Passersby and motorists immediately alerted the police. They rushed Kabali to the Taluk Government Hospital in Cheyyar, where doctors declared him brought dead. A case has been registered.
Police busted the gang from the hideout after analyzing CCTV footage from the area and local alerts. The accused persons have been lodged in Vellore Central Jail. A probe is underway.
