A Turkish-registered plane crashed in western Croatia on Thursday, police said, and local media reported that the pilot had died.
The Air Tractor AT-802 disappeared from radar shortly before 5:00 p.m. local time, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. About 20 minutes later, emergency services were informed that the plane was on fire near the town of Senj, close to the Adriatic coast, the statement said.
Police said the plane was flying from the northern port of Rijeka to the capital Zagreb and back.
No further details were immediately available. The Air Tractor AT-802 is typically used in agriculture or firefighting.
Croatian public broadcaster HRT said the plane belonged to the Turkish Forest Service. The HRT report said rescue teams found the pilot’s body after extinguishing the fire. No one else was on the plane, the report added.
