Kashmiri chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who met Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Srinagar on Thursday (Nov 13, 2025), said injustice and disempowerment lead to radicalization that threatens peace.
Spokesman Mirwaiz said the cleric said he was committed to “peace and dialogue as the most humane and effective means of solving problems and resolving disputes.”
“Both leaders agreed that injustice and disempowerment lead to radicalization that threatens peace. Both leaders agreed that sustained dialogue and mutual understanding are essential to promote peace and human dignity,” the spokesman said.
Mirwaiz and Mr. Shankar discussed the importance of peace, compassion and interfaith harmony in today’s world, the spokesman said. The Mirwaiz also appreciated Mr. Shankar’s recent anti-drug drive in the Valley.
On Mr. Shankar’s upcoming visit to Srinagar Central Jail, Mirwaiz said, “A compassionate and humane approach must guide efforts to release political prisoners and youth”.
