Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (Raitha Parva) staged a protest outside Aranya Bhavan in Mysuru on Thursday, demanding urgent measures to address the growing human-wildlife conflict, particularly in Sargur and HD Kote areas, where several incidents have resulted in human and economic casualties.
The farmers criticized the forest department for not coming up with effective solutions and blamed illegal resorts and homestays operating in forest areas for escalating the problem. They argued that increased human movement in forest zones due to the presence of illegal resorts and homestays was disturbing wildlife and forcing animals to wander into human settlements.
Protesters said that after a series of recent incidents that claimed the lives of three farmers in Sargur taluk, it has become increasingly difficult for the farming community to visit their fields due to the fear of attacks by wild animals, especially tigers.
They demanded strict action against illegal resorts and household families operating in forest areas and sought measures to build confidence among farmers while protecting the interests of wildlife. The farmers urged the ministry to take concrete steps to prevent wild animals from entering the villages on the forest edge.
