Another incident was reported in Munnar on Wednesday where tourists traveling in a taxi booked online were blocked.
According to officials, the incident took place at a private resort in old Munnar. The incident happened to a group of female tourists from Israel who had arrived in Munnar three days ago. Although they used local vehicles for sightseeing, they booked a taxi online for the return trip to Kochi. A group of local taxi drivers allegedly blocked their way when the taxi arrived at the resort to pick up tourists.
Munnar Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Chandrakumar said a police team rushed to the spot on receiving information about the incident and arranged for the tourists to continue their journey by online taxi. “No complaints have been received in connection with the incident,” said a police officer.
In another incident, an assistant professor from Mumbai complained about a group of local taxi drivers harassing her for using an online taxi during her recent visit to Munnar. The police registered a criminal complaint against three taxi drivers and revoked their driving licenses.
