Over 16,000 DUI cases booked in TN in 2 weeks, 14,100 impounded vehicles

As part of an intensive drive against drunk driving, the Tamil Nadu police registered cases against 16,031 motorists for drunk driving from June 1 to June 14, 2026.

During the enforcement drive, authorities seized 14,100 vehicles, including 13,299 two-wheelers, 156 three-wheelers and 645 four-wheelers. The police imposed fines totaling ₹3.13 million for various traffic offenses during the special drive.

Officials said the crackdown was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to curb drink-driving, improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by traffic violations. Enforcement action will continue across the state, they added.
