Telangana Chief Minister Konda Surekha, who is facing a lawsuit from actor Akkineni Nagarjuna over alleged defamatory remarks against his family, expressed regret and retracted her statements on Wednesday (Nov 12, 2025).
The forest minister, who sparked controversy with her comments in October 2024, made the announcement after Mr Nagarjuna filed a defamation complaint in a local court. The complaint accused Ms. Surekha of making defamatory statements against Mr. Nagarjuna and his family because her comments were about his son Naga Chaitanya. The court had earlier recorded the statement of Mr. Nagarjuna and others.
She retracted her remarks following sharp reactions from political leaders and the Telugu film industry. In a post on ‘X’, Ms. Surekha said her comments were not intended to harm Mr. Nagarjuna or his family members.
“It was not my intention to harm or defame Akkineni Nagarjuna Garu or his family members. I regret any unintended impression I may have created in my statements in relation to them and retract the same,” she added.
I would like to clarify that the statement I made in relation to him @iamnagarjuna Garu had no intention of harming Nagarjuna Garu or his family members.
I had no intention of harming or defaming Akkineni Nagarjuna Garu or his family members.
I regret any unwanted impression…
