The state government is all set to hand over three million newly constructed houses to beneficiaries across Andhra Pradesh, marking a major milestone in its commitment to the ‘House for All’ programme, which aims to provide permanent homes to the poor.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will on Wednesday (November 12) launch a mass house insulation from Devagudipalli village in Rayachoti mandal of Annamayya district. He will also virtually dedicate the newly completed houses across all the districts and hand over the house keys to the beneficiaries.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), 2,28,034 houses were completed under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) category, 65,292 under PMAY-Gramin and 6,866 under PMAY-Jagananna. A total of 3,00,192 houses have been completed and will be inaugurated simultaneously.
The state government has also introduced a people-friendly sand policy, which provides free access to nearly 20 tonnes of sand to each beneficiary, reducing construction costs and speeding up the completion of the project.
“Providing shelter to every poor family is the top priority of the alliance government,” officials said. Since 2014, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government has completed more than eight million houses under various housing schemes. In the current term alone, three million houses have been built within 17 months of administration.
The previous government, on the other hand, stopped housing projects, canceled 4.73 lakh sanctioned houses and left outstanding payments to 2.73 lakh beneficiaries. The current government has gradually settled these arrears and revived all stalled projects.
According to a press release, ministers, legislators and officials from all districts will join virtually to launch the Chief Minister’s event.
