Calligrapher Narayana Bhattathiri has been named an honorary director of the World Calligraphy Association.
The announcement was made at the inaugural opening of the Cheongju Jikji International Calligraphy Exhibition in South Korea on November 6.
This is the first time an Indian is taking up the position, a statement said on Tuesday.
Mr. Bhattathiri was also a member of the jury for this year’s Jikji International Calligraphy Exhibition.
The World Script Calligraphy Association, Korea, chaired by Kim Dong-Yeon, and the Ka Cha Ta Tha Pa Foundation, with Mr. Bhattathiri as chairman, signed an agreement to promote friendship and consensus through exchanges and cooperation.
They will jointly organize exhibitions and workshops and organize exchange and educational programs for calligraphers and researchers, the statement said.
