The Press Club of India (PCI) on Tuesday (Nov 11, 2025) condemned the remarks of Shafiqul Alam, the official spokesperson of the Chief Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh, against journalists who recently interviewed former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“In a Facebook post dated November 11, 2025, the official spokesperson of Bangladesh government’s chief adviser, Shafiqul Alam, described reporters from several Indian and foreign media who recently interviewed former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as ‘western journalists and their Indian counterparts who were blackmailing,'” PCI said.
“Such comments are particularly reprehensible as Mr. Alam is a former journalist himself. Describing responsible media professionals covering a genuine news story as ‘bullying’ journalists is certainly not expected of a person in a position of responsibility. The Press Club of India condemns such remarks and demands an apology from Mr. Alam,” PCI said.
