A 28-year-old man allegedly set his two-wheeler on fire in the middle of the road in Basaveshwaranagar on Sunday night after failing to secure a loan for his ailing father’s treatment.
Police said Yeshwanth, an employee of a private courier office, was desperate to raise money for his father’s medical expenses. He sought help from friends and even offered to give him a mortgage for a two-wheeler, but they refused to help him.
Yeshwanth later approached local moneylenders who also refused to offer a loan, citing that his vehicle was already financed.
Frustrated and dejected, Yeshwanth stopped his bike in the middle of the road, doused it with petrol and set it on fire to vent his anger. Passers-by, frightened by the fire, alerted the police, who rushed to the spot, doused the flames and arrested Yeshwanth.
The police filed a criminal complaint against him for disturbing public order. He was arrested and later released.
