India head coach Gautam Gambhir has led the Indian cricket fraternity in mourning the victims of the tragic blast that hit Delhi’s Red Fort area on Monday evening. The blast, which occurred near a metro station, killed at least 10 and injured another 20, sending tremors across the capital.
Gambhir, who has always been vocal about social and national issues, expressed his grief on social media.
“Saddened by the loss of life due to the blast in Delhi. I pray for strength to the families of the deceased and for the speedy recovery of the injured,” wrote the former Prime Minister of India.
The explosion reportedly took place in a Hyundai i20 vehicleaccording to an initial statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Emergency services and security teams were immediately deployed to the area as investigations began to determine the cause and nature of the blast.
Soon after the news broke, messages of condolence and solidarity poured in from across the cricket community. Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan was among the first to react, offering his prayers for the victims and urging citizens to remain vigilant. “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in the car blast in Delhi near Red Fort. My prayers go out to the victims and their families. Let us all stay safe and vigilant,” Dhawan wrote.
BCCI president Mithun Manhas, who also hails from Delhi, expressed his concern over the tragic incident and noted how alarming the news was. “Alarming reports of an explosion coming from near metro station 1 near Red Fort. Thoughts and prayers,” Manhas wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The blast in Delhi, which hit one of the most historically significant areas of the national capital, has caused widespread grief and concern. Authorities have sealed off the area and launched an extensive investigation to identify those responsible.
