Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament M Sribharat said that 410 MoUs are likely to be signed at the CII Partnership Summit to be held in Visakhapatnam on November 14-15, adding that these MoUs will bring ₹9.8 crore worth of investment to the state.
Addressing mediapersons here on Monday (November 10) along with BJP Visakhapatnam District President Parasu Rama Raju, the MP said the summit is being held to boost investor confidence and send a signal to potential investors across the world to look for Andhra Pradesh as an investment destination.
Mr. Sribharat said that all kinds of investments will be showcased at the CII Partnership Summit. “NAREDCO is organizing a real estate summit to showcase the potential of home ownership in the city. Similarly, the tourism potential of the district will also be showcased to investors visiting the summit,” he said.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and all ministers, especially IT Minister Nara Lokesh, have worked hard to bring investment to the state. “The Chief Minister himself, Nara Lokesh, Industries Minister and officials have undertaken foreign trips to attract investment and some of them will be linked to participation in the summit and others at a later stage,” he said.
The MP said that emphasis was placed on the grounding of projects for which a memorandum of understanding had been concluded. “While concluding the MoU is one step, we need to ensure that the state cabinet clears it, the land is allocated and the project is set in motion. In the remaining three-and-a-half years of the current government, the focus will be on grounding the projects and making them operational,” he said.
“All arrangements are being made for the smooth running of the summit. I have directed the GVMC commissioner to start work so that the money invested in the beautification of the city will be useful in the future,” the MP explained.
Addressing the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) conference, which is planning protests against the proposal to run medical colleges on the PPP model when the summit is held in the state, Mr. Sribharat said the YSRCP did not want investment coming into the state. “YSRCP’s policy during his regime was not to empower SCs, STs or BCs but to keep them in poverty. YSRCP did not bring industries to empower people but limited itself to giving away freebies,” he said.
“When the summit was held during the previous tenure of the TDP government, the YSRCP made a similar attempt. The government will deal decisively with any attempt to disrupt the summit,” he said.
Mr. Parasu Rama Raju said that the previous YSRCP government had sanctioned ₹60 crore for the medical college for which around ₹600 crore was required. “The hospital does not end with the slab construction. It also needs a college, hostel and other infrastructure. They claim that the medical college at Parvatipuram has been completed but the land for it has not been approved,” he said.
Reacting to the recent arrest of a YSRCP leader in a drug case, Mr. Sribharat said that people with criminal record or bad intentions are on every side, but the ratio of such people in YSRCP is higher. “YSRCP has encouraged leaders who use profanity with nominated posts and those who are involved in serious misdemeanors in the cabinet,” he said.
