Leaders of the Tripura unit of the Congress on Tuesday (June 16, 2026) lodged a complaint with the local authority against the alleged assault of Youth Congress members by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) during a protest rally against the National Eligibility Test (NEET) paper leak in Agartala on Monday (2026).

They also demanded action against the CRPF jawans who allegedly used abusive language against the protesters.

former Health Minister and MLA Sudip Roy Barman; PCC(I) President Ashish Kumar Saha; and State Youth Congress President Neel Saha met the DIG, CRPF at his office. The complaint said that the aggressive behavior of the CRPF unit, which was present at the protest site, was unprecedented and in every way against the law.

The delegation specifically named an assistant commander who, despite requests from state police officers, behaved arrogantly. CRPF units are attached to all the district police segments in Tripura to help them maintain law and order.

The Congress claimed that at least five Youth Congress members were hospitalized after they were injured in baton charges by CRPF personnel. Several of them were released after first aid treatment.

Youth Congress president Neel Saha had earlier filed a complaint at the West Agartala police station against CRPF jawans for illegally assaulting workers causing injury and allegedly making abusive comments. The police registered the case.

The protest rally called yesterday against the NEET paper leak and the push for some other demands was one of the biggest political shows organized by the Congress party in recent months. Police barricaded them near the Chief Minister’s official residence and used water cannons to prevent them from advancing. Dozens of workers were taken into custody and subsequently released.
