
Congress party workers and members of the public on Sunday paid tributes to MR Reghuchandrabal, a senior Congress leader and former excise minister, who died here on Saturday at the age of 75.
The remains were kept at his Sasthamangalam residence, Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee office and Drishya Auditorium, Kanjiramkulam for the public to pay their last respects.
The cremation took place at Kanjiramkulam on Sunday evening.
Reghuchandrabal was Minister for Excise in the K. Karunakaran Cabinet from 2 July 1991 to 16 March 1995. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly twice; from Kovalam in 1980 and from Parassala in 1991. He also served as the president of Kanjiramkulam panchayat.
Reghuchandrabal was born on 12 March 1950 to M. Raghavan Nadar and Kamala Bhai.
He was also active in the cultural sphere, composing songs and writing several plays.
He leaves behind his wife CM Oman and two sons.
Senior leaders condoled the death. In a message on Saturday, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan recalled Reghuchandrabal’s contributions to build the Congress party in Thiruvananthapuram district. Kerala Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer said that as an MLA, Reghuchandrabal actively participated in the business of the House. Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala remembered Reghuchandrabal as a politician who took an active interest in people’s problems.
