The Teacher Recruitment Board will publish the point list for filling 2,708 assistant professor posts by the end of June
In December 2025, an entrance exam was held to fill the positions of assistant professors.
The Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) aims to release the mark list for the December 2025 recruitment exam to fill 2,708 assistant posts in government arts and science colleges in the last week of June.
The board is now awaiting clarification from the higher education ministry on whether it can go ahead with filling up 1,292 more assistant professor posts after the Madras High Court gave it permission last month.
The evaluation of descriptive answers and the process of allotting weightage to experienced candidates has been completed, TRB sources said. Candidates were awarded two marks for each year of experience, not exceeding 15 marks, as directed by the court. The mark list will be released in the last week of June and around the same time the certificate verification schedule will be announced after which the interview schedule will be released. They added that at least three suitable candidates will be interviewed for each position.
The recruitment process through open competition has hit a rough patch after guest lecturers working in government colleges and universities approached the court seeking regularization of their services after the TRB issued a notification for the 2024 recruitment examination based on Government Order (GO) 2022. A single judge of the Madras High Court allowed the petitions directing the government to consider regularizing them.
In October 2025, the Ministry of Higher Education issued a GO directing the TRB to cancel the 2024 notification and issue a new one to fill 2,708 seats, excluding the 1,292 seats that were caught in the litigation. The exam was held in December 2025. Meanwhile, the state government filed an appeal stating that 7,000 assistant professor posts were vacant in government arts and science colleges and government colleges and 42,064 qualified candidates applied for these posts. A division bench of the Madras High Court last month set aside the order of a single judge and asked the government to issue appropriate directions to the TRB to announce 1,292 more posts for recruitment.
