Two individuals, including a Home Guard, were arrested for smuggling ganja into Hyderabad by the State Task Force C team of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department. Officials seized 15.33 kg of ganja worth around ₹7.5 million.
The arrests were made on Saturday morning (November 8) during checks near Ramoji Film City. The accused, identified as Nilambar Mirkan, 50, a police Home Guard, was contacted by one Umakant Nagar of Odisha’s Malkangiri district to transport a consignment of ganja to Hyderabad.
Acting on credible intelligence, the team intercepted the car driven by Sona Kala (35) and conducted a detailed inspection.
Although no contraband was initially found, officers noticed scratches and signs of tampering on the spare tire in the trunk of the vehicle. While dismantling it, they discovered four packets of ganja hidden in the tire lining. The packages together weighed 15.33 kg.
Both Mirkan and Kala were taken into custody, while a case was also registered against Umakant, who supplied the ganja from Odisha.
The seized car and the contraband were handed over to Hayathnagar Excise Station for further investigation.
