Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the NDA government was committed to the welfare of farmers and due priority was given to ensuring minimum support prices (MSP) for various crops.
Participating in the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Acharya NG Ranga at Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) at Lam in Guntur district on Friday, Mr. Naidu said that the agriculture sector achieved a growth rate of 16.60% of GDP in 2014-2019 and declined to 2010-24% in 2019.
The coalition government increased it to 15.45% in 2024-25. Despite financial constraints, the government has cleared dues to farmers that had accumulated during the YSRCP government. In 2024-25, the government purchased 55.79 lakh tonnes of paddy land for ₹12,857 crore.
Payments were made to farmers’ accounts within 24 hours. An amount of ₹7,000 was also provided to each farmer under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme.
Mr. Naidu said the government could significantly mitigate the damage caused by Cyclone Montha in the agricultural sector with the combined efforts of the government machinery and the use of advanced technology. During 2014-19, an amount of ₹20,000 per hectare was paid to farmers for cyclone damage. The YSRCP government reduced it to ₹17,000. It has now been increased to ₹25,000. The coalition government paid 95% of crop insurance on coming to power, he noted.
Mr. Naidu said the government saw to it that 95% of the reservoirs were filled during the recent spate of rains through efficient water management and this could overcome the drought in Rayalaseema.
He promised to provide tenants with all possible support and called for the promotion of organic farming. He recalled that he had a special bond with Acharya NG Ranga and was inspired by his writings.
He pointed out that the Hyderabad Agricultural University was named after him (Acharya NG Ranga) and the Agricultural University in the new state of Andhra Pradesh was also named after him in recognition of his stellar contributions to the agricultural sector.
“Acharya NG Ranga led the Andhra peasant movement from the front and was a great parliamentarian. He was a multi-faceted personality who will never be forgotten by the people, especially the farmers,” said Mr. Naidu.
Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu, Lavu MP Sri Krishna Devarayalu, officials from ANGRAU and others were present.
