Students, research scholars, faculty members and non-teaching staff of Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam paid rich tributes to the immortal national song ‘Vande Mataram’ The students, research scholars, faculty members and non-teaching staff of Sri Padmavati Mahila Vislawami paid rich tributes to the immortal national song ‘Vande Mataram’. (SPMVV) here on Friday to mark the 150th anniversary of the song written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.
“Written in 1875, Vande Mataram continues to be a timeless symbol of national pride, unity and devotion to India,” said Vice-Chancellor V Uma, describing Chatterjee’s composition as an inspiring contribution to the freedom movement and India’s literary heritage.
On the occasion, students and teachers appeared in handwoven sarees in shades of the tricolor. As a reminder, the SPMVV faculty members have already decided to wear a handloom on the 7th day of the month that coincides with this special anniversary.
Registrar N. Rajani, deans of various schools, faculty members and students stood in silence as a mark of respect as the song was played.
