(AP) After much uncertainty, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dubai today (November 7) at 3:00 PM IST for the International Cricket Council (ICC) board meeting. The earlier informal discussion among the board members began without Naqvia’s presence. The president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had left for Dubai earlier in the day and was expected to attend a very important board meeting. Although not officially on the agenda, the matter of the Asia Cup trophy is likely to be raised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and could lead to a heated debate between the arch-rivals.
BCCI sends a stern message to Mohsin Naqvi regarding Asia Cup trophy
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will represent the Indian cricket board and has repeatedly hinted that he will be aiming for the Asia Cup trophy. Even before leaving for Dubai, he emphasized that a complaint would be filed.“Ten days ago we wrote to the ACC president asking him to hand over the trophy to BCCI as soon as possible. But till today we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for the next day. If we don’t get the trophy by November 3, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. We will raise some complaint before the international assembly and help. India will get the trophy as soon as possible,” Saikia told news agency ANI.The Asia Cup final probably saw more drama after the last ball than during the match which India won by defeating Pakistan. The Indian cricket team never got their hands on the silverware during the traditional ceremony. PCB and ACC chief Naqvi left the venue with the trophy and the presentation ceremony took place without India winning the title. BCCI raised the matter during an ACC meeting last month, but there was no resolution as Naqvi remained defiant.Naqvi could be under pressure from other administrators in Dubai as India is likely to get a lot of support on the matter when it comes up for discussion. Today is the last day of the ICC meeting in Dubai and it is worth noting that Naqvi stayed away for the first few days and arrived just an hour before the formal board meeting began.
